sarahsaur213 asked I am going out on the water as a first time coxswain today. What should i wear, remember, and bring? Wear: layers, layers, layers. Even if it’s warm out, you’re probably going to be cold. Make sure your top layer is waterproof. Remember: your calls and how to steer and turn, plus any little things your rowers or coaches tell you. Bring: all my coxes have...

Anonymous asked: In response to the question about steering: Best advice would be to talk to your coach, but my advice: make small, frequent (if you need to) adjustments with the steering, try to avoid cranking the steering to one side (unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary). If you move the steering when the rowers have the blade IN the water, it'll be less of an adjustment, but it won't affect the balance...

hey-hayy asked: in response to the person asking about the recruiting process for coxswains, it's very similar to that of rowers. coaches will normally ask for a recording of you at a practice or meet instead of 2K times.

0nethirty asked: To the cox that has to lose weight. I'm a lightweight rower and am at that transition from fall weight to spring weight. The best advice I can give you is to really watch what you eat. I cut out bread & high sodium foods & sweets & I've already lost 3 pounds within about a week and a half. It helps oh so much! And of course treat yourself to those things every so often, but...

Anonymous asked: In response to the coxie who needed to get back to coxie weight, I've found the best way to do that is to get back on a healthy portion diet and exercise both with the team and on your own. Not only does it get you back in shape, it earns the respect of the rowers you cox, they will appreciate a cox who works out with them more than a cox who doesn't.
