Anonymous asked: For steering: Sit back in your seat, and brace your feet against the stroke seat. Then take a moment to check out your surroundings, and memorize them. Then, whenever you see that youre starting to go off course, make a SMALL two inch adjustment Hold the rudder strings with just your thumb and index finger, and brace the other fingers against the hull of the boat. Remember that it takes about 6...

nothingbut-thegirl asked: That would be me, the submission you're talking about. Sorry :) As a rower who has had a innumberable amount of coxes in her nine months of rowing, I find everyone's calls are subtly different and it can be a real challenge translating from one to the next. I'm learning to cox in two weeks time, so I'm definitely going to keep reading your list of calls with interest and see...

emmacohen: We have 47 girls on our novice team. Our coaches made us erg 3 times this week and we were on the erg for 2 hours each day. sometimes i wonder “why couldnt i of done a normal sport!?” GO LGRC! Wow. That is insanity. But that’s what makes our sport our sport. Not everyone can do it.

Anonymous asked: And for coxing, remember LAYERS ARE KEY. You should start out with long spandex or yoga pants, then wear a work out or sporty shirt, preferably not made of cotton, then a light jacket, and a heavier jacket. During the cold months wear a parka if you've got one, or if you don't then wear a rain coat/ poncho when it rains, water proof pants, wind breakers. Get yourself a wool north face...

Anonymous asked: Hey girl, I'm a coxswain too, and though you probably don't need advice so much anymore, I figured I'd just give you some tips and tricks that I've picked up
1) Be positive, don't get angry at your crew, don't yell, don't belittle them. Instead of saying "I know this hurts, but you're almost done" say "I know you want this, I can see...

I got a submission from someone.
They asked if it was okay that they were submitting calls because they’re a rower, not a cox. Of course it’s okay! Rowers are certainly allowed to submit calls; actually, I really welcome them. As both a cox and a rower, I know it’s very important for the two types to have excellent communication. Rowers have to listen to and understand the calls, so it makes perfect sense for...

rowsbeforehoes: You never really gave much thought to it until this point in time.. but your greatest opponent has never been another boat, a disparaging coach, or even the number one rower on your team who kicks your time’s ass every damn erg test.
