Anonymous asked: What schools do you want to go to?
Anonymous asked: I live in Virginia and I know of two schools that give scholarships to rowers: George Mason University up near Washington D.C. and Old Dominion University down in Norfolk give them out, but mostly half-ride scholarships. I don't know of many full-ride rowing scholarships--ODU used to give a couple, but idk if they still do. I'm sure there are more schools than that, especially up North...
alexs1214 asked: To the person who asked about scholarships for rowing, it is very possible, especially for women. Because its an NCAA sport, scholarships are very likely if you are being recruited, as long as its not an Ivy League school. (Ivy Leagues cannot give out any scholarships, but it is possible. I just received an athletic scholarship from the crew team at Duke.)
raine1d asked: You answered a question before about scholarships... Some schools WILL give you a scholarship for rowing. It depends what school, but you can be recruited or after a year of rowing on the team you are eligible for a scholarship. It's up to the coach to determine how much to nominate you for.

jaimethain asked: Can you also tell that anon to make sure that the girls actually know what rushing is. I coxed a novice quad (I'm a rower, they were just desperate for a cox for a trainging) and I kept saying to the girls to stop rushing and a lot of them thought not rushing was just bringing the stroke rate down, when it's all about have a consistant speed all the way up the slide, if you speed up that...

Anonymous asked: I'm stroke seat of our novice girls quad. Lately after practice my back has been hurting insanely! my coach said it was because bow was rushing me, but I don't know how I can get them to not do that! Advice?

finnckodairs-deactivated2013041 asked: for the mono rower: my second year of crew, i got mono but went to a regatta anyways. i medaled, but then ended up in the ER twice that weekend. you can burst your spleen if you start rowing too soon, so, BE CAREFUL. take whatever meds the doctors give you. make sure you eat because i dropped like 15lbs. ease back into it.

weighnuff-deactivated20120429 asked: To mono Anon: I had mono last year and when I didn't know I had it so I ran a marathon. I had to have surgury. Worst birthday ever.

roughandrowdyways asked: To the Anon who asked about mono: I had it in october/november and I took about a month and a half off, and then I came back part time. Just make sure you don't overdo it right when you come back, you don't want to relapse. If you can, erg long pieces at a consistent split to get your endurance back. Your coaches know you've been sick, so hopefully they won't push you too hard....

sarahslifegoeson asked: hi! for the person who was out with mono - i got it in july and i was back at crew in september for fall season. however, i went the whole season without touching my 5k PR. it tears you down and you have to be ready to work through being weaker than you ever wanted to be. the big thing is not letting a low time or anything get you down. stay positive. do the workouts the best of anyone. run as...

long-to-belong-deactivated20120 asked: I just came back from a rowing camp for 5 days. We single sculled 2 to 3 times a day and each session was like 18-24km a session. I don't think I have ever hated and loved a sport so much in my life. oh and my hands are so beautifully blistered. I don't want to wash my hair until they heal a little bit. hahaha. OH and my slide bites are so deep :)

Anonymous asked: Just wanted to say I love all the enthusiasm from the new rowers that have been asking questions lately. I second your advice: embrace the pain because honestly, it never does get easier but you will get faster. I certainly don't mean to scare people away from rowing by saying that. Work hard and you'll soon learn that there's no better feeling than a personal best, no better...
