You Know You're a Rower When...

May 28

…you finally get a day off and all you do is go home and sleep.

Anonymous asked: I hope this doesn't fall under the weight/height thing :L I would freaking love to make a national team, but people keep telling me I'm to skinny to hold that amount of muscle. I'm about 40 seconds off the qualifying time, but I'm nearly 16. I was wondering if you think my figure would effect my times?

You haven’t mentioned your height or weight, so I can’t say. 40 seconds is a lot to drop, but I would talk to your coach about it.

…your stress levels don’t go down during the summer.

A response to several of the asks we’ve been getting:

This blog is what you guys make it. Yes, I can give you advice and format your submissions but this blog isn’t for me, it’s for you all. If you want to ‘spice it up’, submit a post.

-Lauren

Yeah, guys, Lauren is currently the only admin and she’s got plenty of other stuff to do. I find it extremely rude to see hateful messages about the quality of the blog. If you think we need more submissions, then by all means, submit.

Anonymous asked: A response to the "mean crew girls" - it happened to me, too. There's this wonderful myth out there that high school is the best years of your life - it's not. It sucks, and it hurts (you bet it does!) ... you're better than these mean girls. Wait till you get out into the world and meet some genuinely amazing people! My advice is to just focus on the rowing, and not worry about the politics. Your WILL find a group of amazing friends that deserve /you/ - till then, row strong!

I think everyone has different experiences, and high school can be great. I don’t always get along with people at crew but that doesn’t mean my high school experience is ruined. Your life is like a 2k, it’s only as good as you make it.

Anonymous asked: hey i just want to respond to one of the anonymous questions about people on his/her team talking about them... it happened to me in high school, it sucks it really does and i know exactly what you are going through and don't laugh when you read this and say ha you probably don't... i do. just push through it (literally haha) and it will make you a stronger person. try to separate yourself from hanging out with the rowing people and just make practice practice. leave rowing at the boathouse

Anonymous asked: I don't know what to do about my teammates. They are great people. But recently I have been having problems. The only time one girl talks to me is to put me down or say something nasty even when i try to do something nice. The rest of them aren't as blunt but they do blatantly exclude me. They have caused me to go home in tears several tmes. They make crew so un fun. I used to look foreward to practice everyday but now they make me want to quit, and i just don't know what to do. Any suggestions

I’m really sorry that you’re going through that. Crew can be so competitive and if you don’t have a clique I can see why it would be difficult.

In this case crew is the same as most other sports/extracurriculars, or even the social aspects of school. I would try talking to them, trying to include yourself in their conversations. If people think they can get away with being assholes, that’s just what they’ll do.

If you need someone to talk to, the rest of the Tumblr crew community and I are here for you.

Anonymous asked: Why is my body fat percentage so much higher than everyone else on my team? I work just as hard as them

As much as it sucks, genetics. Some peoples’ metabolisms are just slower and everyone’s body structure is different. I recommend running, because supposedly the more you run the more aerodynamic your body become.

…you want to yell at your anatomy teacher when they talk about a muscle in the arm and say that it’s a muscle you would use if you were to row.
